1. What are the benefits of a Sauna?

What Are the Benefits of a Sauna?

Regular sauna use delivers a wide range of scientifically backed benefits for both body and mind:

  • Improved Circulation: Heat causes your blood vessels to expand, increasing oxygen delivery and promoting cardiovascular health, like a gentle workout for your heart.
  • Muscle Recovery: Enhanced blood flow helps flush out lactic acid and reduce muscle soreness after training.
  • Detoxification: Deep sweating supports your body’s natural detox process, helping eliminate heavy metals, toxins, and impurities through the skin.
  • Immune Boost: Repeated heat exposure increases white blood cell production, strengthening your body’s defences.
  • Stress Reduction: Saunas lower cortisol levels and trigger endorphins, your body’s natural mood elevators, reducing anxiety and tension.
  • Better Sleep: The post-sauna cooling effect helps regulate core temperature, promoting deep, restorative sleep.
  • Longevity: Studies show consistent sauna use is linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, dementia, and all-cause mortality.
  • Skin Health: Sweating deeply cleanses pores, increases circulation to the skin, and promotes a healthy, radiant glow.
  • Hormonal Balance: Regular use may support testosterone levels in men and improve hormonal regulation through better stress control.
  • Mental Clarity: The heat helps you disconnect, slow down, and enter a calm, meditative state, sharpening focus and clarity over time.

The sauna is more than heat, it’s a practice of renewal, recovery, and resilience.

2. How long should I stay in? And at what temperature?

How Long Should I Stay In, and At What Temperature?

It depends on your goal and your experience level, but the key principle is this: the sauna should challenge you, not deplete you.

Used correctly, it becomes a ritual that strengthens your cardiovascular system, clears your mind, and restores your body from the inside out.

For Recovery & Muscle Relaxation

After training or contrast therapy sessions:

  • Temperature: 80–90°C
  • Duration: 15–20 minutes
  • Frequency: 3–5 times per week

This range is ideal for easing muscle tension, improving circulation, and accelerating recovery. Your heart rate gently elevates, blood vessels expand, and nutrient-rich blood floods tired muscles, all without the physical stress of exercise.

🔹 For Detox & Circulation

When your goal is deep sweat and cellular renewal:

  • Temperature: 85–90°C
  • Duration: 10–15 minutes (split into 2–3 rounds if desired)
  • Frequency: 2–4 times per week

Higher heat sessions stimulate the release of heat shock proteins (HSPs) — powerful molecules that protect your cells from damage, improve mitochondrial health, and assist in detoxifying heavy metals and toxins through sweat.

Finish with a cold plunge or shower to contract blood vessels and enhance circulation, the alternating heat and cold creates a natural “vascular workout.”

For Relaxation, Mindfulness & Better Sleep

Evening or stress-relief sessions:

  • Temperature: 75–85°C
  • Duration: 20–30 minutes
  • Frequency: 2–3 times per week

At these milder temperatures, your parasympathetic nervous system (rest and recovery mode) takes over. Cortisol drops, serotonin and dopamine rise, and your mind enters a calm, meditative state. As your body cools naturally afterwards, your core temperature drop mimics the body’s pre-sleep rhythm — helping you fall asleep faster and sleep deeper.

The Science Behind It

Every sauna session triggers a controlled heat stress response, heart rate rises, circulation improves, and your body begins to adapt to heat more efficiently.

This process (called thermogenesis) strengthens your cardiovascular system and increases your body’s tolerance to stress. Over time, regular use is linked to:

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improved heart rate variability (HRV)
  • Reduced risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Enhanced endurance and post-workout recovery

Listen to Your Body

Hydrate well, take breaks between rounds, and exit if you feel dizzy or overly fatigued.

You should feel rejuvenated, not drained.

Finish with a cold rinse or plunge to seal in the benefits and bring your body back into balance, completing the ritual of contrast.

The sauna isn’t a race, it’s a rhythm.

Find your heat, breathe deeply, and let the body do the work.

3. Do you ship overseas?

Yes, we ship all over the world. Shipping costs will apply, and will be added at checkout. We run discounts and promotions all year, so stay tuned for exclusive deals.

4. How long will it take to get my orders?

Overseas deliveries can take a little longer depending on location andn transit time. Give us a call to discuss with a member of the team and theyll guide you through the process. Delivery details will be provided in your confirmation email.

5. Do they need to be placed on a hard standing?

Yes, a flat level surface that can withstand up to 600kg of weight. Ideally a concreate base.

6. What are the dims / weight?

Feature Specifications

Occupancy 1–2 people
External Footprint Ø 1.5 m × H 2.2 m
Wall Thickness 46mm Thermowood
Roof Moisture-resistant timber roof or Glass
Door Toughened glass with timber frame
Heater Harvia 6kW Electric Stone Furnace

7. What electrical supply does the Sauna need?

A 32 amp 240v supply.

8. How much does it cost to run?

The running cost will depend on how you are using the system and how long you have the Sauna on for but as a rough guide itll cost around £1 per hour of use

9. Should I treat the Thermowood Sauna?

Should I Treat Thermowood?

In short: you don’t have to! But you can if you want to preserve the original colour and finish.

Thermowood is already heat-treated at around 180–220°C, which changes the wood at a molecular level. This process:

  • Removes moisture and natural resins
  • Makes it highly resistant to rot, fungus, and warping
  • Dramatically increases its dimensional stability (it doesn’t twist or swell like standard timber)
  • Extends its lifespan well beyond untreated wood — often 15–25+ years outdoors

So in terms of protection, thermowood is ready to face the elements as it is.

However, aesthetics are where treatment comes in.

If Left Untreated

Over time, the surface will naturally weather to a beautiful silver-grey patina, similar to cedar or oak outdoors.

This doesn’t affect the structure or performance it’s purely visual. Many people love this natural, Scandinavian look as it softens into the landscape.

If You Want to Maintain the Original Colour

Apply a UV-protective oil or stain once or twice a year.

This helps:

  • Maintain that rich golden-brown hue
  • Reduce surface cracking from sun exposure
  • Protect against moisture staining and algae growth in shaded areas

Look for oils designed specifically for thermowood, cedar, or hardwood cladding brands like Osmo UV-Protection Oil, Rubio Monocoat, or Tikkurila Valtti work beautifully.

Best Practice

  • Make sure the surface is clean and dry before applying any oil.
  • Use a lint-free cloth or brush to apply a thin, even coat along the grain.
  • Wipe away excess and allow it to dry fully.
  • For saunas, only treat the exterior — the interior must stay natural to allow the wood to breathe and withstand heat properly.

In summary:

Thermowood doesn’t need treatment for longevity, but if you want to keep its colour rich and prevent greying, a UV oil once or twice a year will keep it looking brand new for decades.

10. Can I put water and oils on the sauna coals?

Can I Put Water and Oils on the Sauna Coals?

Yes... but with care and understanding of how your heater is designed to handle it.

Sauna heaters are built to tolerate controlled bursts of water on the stones, but how you use that water (and what’s in it) makes all the difference between enhancing your experience and damaging your heater.

Water: Yes, In Moderation

Pouring small amounts of water over the sauna stones is a key part of traditional sauna use.

It instantly creates a wave of steam, raising humidity and giving that deep, enveloping heat sensation known as löyly in Finnish culture.

Do it right:

  • Use clean, fresh water only (no chlorine or additives).
  • Use a ladle, not a bucket — just one or two ladles per pour is enough.
  • Allow 30–60 seconds between pours to prevent thermal shock to the heating elements.
  • Always pour onto the top of the stones, never directly onto the metal heater or elements.

This gentle cycle of steam and dry heat helps your body sweat more effectively and improves circulation.

Oils: Only When Properly Diluted

Essential oils can enhance your sauna experience beautifully, eucalyptus, peppermint, lavender, and citrus oils are all popular choices.

However, never pour pure essential oils directly onto the stones or into the water tank.

They are flammable and can leave sticky residues that damage the stones and heating elements.

Correct use:

  • Mix 2–3 drops of oil into a ladle of water or a separate fragrance bowl before pouring.
  • Alternatively, use a sauna aroma diffuser or wooden scent cup that sits safely near the heat.

This releases the scent gradually without risk of combustion or residue.

What to Avoid

  • Never use chlorinated pool water, tap water with high mineral content, or perfumed oils not designed for saunas — they can corrode metal parts and produce unpleasant fumes.
  • Don’t throw large amounts of water onto stones at once; this can crack stones and shorten element lifespan.
  • Avoid adding alcohol-based fragrances — they are highly flammable.

Pro Tip

If you love a strong steam burst, consider using smaller, more frequent ladle pours. This keeps humidity pleasant and safe for your heater.

After your session, always allow the heater to run dry for a few minutes with the lid open to evaporate any remaining moisture.

In summary:

  • Water is encouraged, small ladle pours for authentic steam.
  • Oils are fine only when diluted or used in diffusers.
  • Avoid pure oils, alcohol, or excessive water.

Used correctly, this ritual transforms your sauna into a multi-sensory experience, sound, scent, and steam all working together to relax and restore.

11. How often should I clean my sauna?

Best Practice: How (and How Often) to Clean Your Sauna

Keeping your sauna clean isn’t just about looks, it’s about preserving the wood, preventing odours, and extending its lifespan.

With a little regular care, your sauna will stay fresh, hygienic, and beautiful for years to come.

Routine Cleaning Schedule

FrequencyTaskPurpose

After Every Use Quick wipe-down of benches, backrests, and floor with a damp cloth to remove sweat and prevents staining

Weekly Light clean of benches and floor with warm water, soap or natural wood cleaner to keep bacteria and odours under control

Monthly Vacuum or sweep under benches and heater area to remove all dust and debris

Every 3–6 Months Deep clean and inspection to restore wood freshness and checks for any wear or damage

After Each Use

  • Leave the door open for at least 30–60 minutes after your session to allow moisture to evaporate.
  • Wipe benches and backrests with a clean, damp cloth (microfibre or soft sponge).
  • Don’t use harsh chemicals they can damage the timber and leave residue that reacts under heat.
  • Remove any towels or mats immediately so the wood can breathe.

This small habit prevents mould, sweat marks, and musty smells.

Weekly Cleaning

Mix a mild cleaning solution using:

  • 1 bucket of warm water
  • A splash of natural soap (such as linseed or pine soap) or a few drops of eco-friendly sauna wood cleaner

Wipe all internal surfaces, benches, and the floor, following the grain of the wood.

Avoid saturating the timber, just a light, damp clean is enough.

Then leave the door open to dry completely.

Deep Cleaning (Every 6 Months)

  1. Remove benches and floor mats if possible.
  2. Lightly sand any darker or stained areas using fine-grit sandpaper (120–180 grit) to restore the original colour.
  3. Wipe down with a damp cloth to remove dust.
  4. Clean the heater stones, remove any crumbled or cracked stones and replace them if needed.
  5. Check all screws, seals, and the heater guard for tightness and integrity.

If you’ve got a glass door or roof, clean it with standard glass cleaner or vinegar-water mix, making sure no chemical runs onto the wood.

⚠️ What to Avoid

  • ❌ No bleach, detergents, or chemical sprays — they release fumes when heated.
  • ❌ Don’t varnish, oil, or seal the interior wood — it must breathe naturally to handle heat and humidity.
  • ❌ Avoid soaking or pressure washing the interior.
  • ❌ Never pour excess water on the floor — it can seep into joints and cause expansion.

Ongoing Care & Longevity Tips

  • Place a towel or mat on benches during use to absorb sweat and protect wood.
  • Rotate your heater stones every few months for even wear.
  • If your sauna is outdoors, occasionally clean and treat the exterior thermowood with a UV-protective oil (1–2 times per year).
  • Check ventilation vents are clear — proper airflow prevents condensation and extends heater life.

In summary:

Keep it dry, keep it natural, and clean lightly but often.

Your sauna isn’t just a structure, it’s a living, breathing space.

With a few minutes of care each week, it will perform beautifully for decades.
